Find out how much YOU know about avoiding a DUI!

Huge reduction in business travel, increasing fuel costs and wide-spread lack of consumer confidence leads to these top stories I've received just this week in my in-box about limo companies failing or reducing their fleet and employees.
In the Phoenix market we are doubling suffering as we normally have a drop in business due to the seasonality of this market of about 30-40%. When it is 110 degrees in Phoenix people leave town - or sit in their swimming pools and try and stay cool.
The big problem in Phoenix is that we didn't get enough revenue to tuck away to sustain us through the summer. Many of our prospective clients get upset that our Prom rates are so high - we need to boost the prices to help us through the summer - "make hay while the sun shines" as the saying goes. But this Prom season we couldn't hold our prices up - only about 4 nights had the "normal" insane demand.
So we've cut costs - everywhere we can. . . and thinking outside the box for new ways to acquire business and new niches to fill. . . We've lowered our rental rates trying to "make it up in volume" - our hourly prics and our transfers are at lower rates than they have ever been at in the almost five years we've been in business.
Top headlines about limo companies failing:
Metro Cars a Detroit limo company after company allegedly defaulted on loans and interest totaling $45.3 million. Metro Cars holds a roughly $9 million a year parking shuttle contract more. . .
BostonCoach, the fourth largest limo company in the nation owned by mutual fund giant Fidelity Investments, has closed branches in San Francisco, Dallas and Atlanta and a spokesman said the company now has 877 employees, down from 1,200 in April last year.
Its bigger national rivals also have laid off workers. They include Carey International Inc of Washington D.C., with 1,350 cars, and Dav El Chauffeured Transportation Network in Chelsea, Massachusetts, with 1,036 cars. More. . .
I know that many businesses are suffering in this economy. Hopefully most of the good limo companies (like us I think?!) will make it through. . .
What do you think? Are you a business owner struggling too? Since small business employs about 50% of the private sector employees and accounts for 60-80% of the new jobs created in the last decade I personally see it as everybody's problem what is happening to small businesses (like limo companies). . .
4th of July is here again in Phoenix, AZ - what to do? Join the masses and head out of town? Not a bad idea since it is projected to be 101 degrees according to Weather.com in Phoenix, AZ!
Check out our Turn Around Trips In Limos and head to Las Vegas to sip some cocktails poolside at the casinos and then later, hit the nightlife - clubs and gambling. Or go to San Diego or Los Angeles for cooler weather and more family activities - Disney, Sea World, etc. all are great options. Or even just hanging out on the beach watching fireworks - that is what we are doing! San Clemente, CA and bar-b-que with family here we come!
If you want to stay closer to home, a great option is the Wine Tour to Granite Creek Vineyard. It will be a high of 86 degrees in Chino Valley on the 4th of July. Spend the day with your family and friends - enjoying the beauty of this organic vineyard, sip some wine - eat great food, watch the peacocks, the live music and shop at the Farmer's Market.
Of course there is always Arizona's floating picnic at the
Salt River. There will be live music and fireworks on the 4th of July! We have great - safe transportation to the Salt River for tubing.
Then there are always the old stand-bys of fireworks in town. About.com has a listing of 4th of July events in town. If you want to enjoy some cocktails afterward, at the club or at a bar-b-que or party at friend's house, just make sure to designate a driver or get a limo/SUV/sedan!
We all love specials! And a super hot venue in Old Town Scottsdale - American Junkie has extended some exciting offers JUST for clients of In The Scene Limousine!
American Junkie is extending a $50 discount for bottle service just for our clients riding with us! Their bottle service retails for $250 - so that means that you get $200 bottles when you book a table/bottle service! Just call and mention In The Scene Limo discount.
It may sound like a lot - but really bottle service is actually a great bargain! You get guaranteed no line/no cover - your own table area. Your own space for you and your friends can be really important for those busy nights - and American Junkie is OFF THE HOOK on Wednesday and Saturday nights!
When you really break it down by head the cost for bottle service is MUCH less than the $8-$10 you are going to pay for premium cocktails individually from the bar!
American Junkie is also giving our clients a dinner discount! So when you come in to eat dinner, and book a bottle the same night, you will get 25% off your entire dinner bill, and pay only $200 for for your bottle for the evening! Super cool - discounts on dinner and drinks all at the same venue!
This might be a great idea for super cheap limo service on weekdays - or you can call us for round trip transfers pricing for limos (offered on some of the lower demand nights - even some Friday/Saturdays).
Party safely - avoid DUIs - and take advantage of the great discounts American Junkie and In The Scene Limousine are offering you!
We went out to Myst on Saturday night to meet some friends and have some fun. It's been a super long time since we've been out - like a pre-planned night. Not just the spur of the moment - let's go meet some friends for dinner or at the clubs/lounges. Totally planned.
So I spent all Saturday thinking about these important things.
- What am I going to wear? Trip to the mall - outfit and accessories = $150
- How tan do I look? Trip to the tanning salon - 8 minutes on the bed to 'open my pores' and then Mystic tan = $22.50
- Are my toes okay? Trip to the pedicure place = $30 with tip.
- We don't drink anymore so we don't have to plan this part - but who is going to be the designated driver? Should we call a sedan service = $45 each way this way we get to be home - in our own bed. Or should we get a hotel = summer specials around $80-$100.
- Then the dinner and drinks = $70 for us (non-drinkers - party of two) or more like $120-200 for a party of two drinkers.
It seems like a lot of money when you add it all up. But it is fun -all work and no playtime gets really dull - and lonely.
I have a great blog article about how renting a limo or party actually saves you money on going out to help minimize some of these costs. The ultimate cost would be killing or injuring somebody in drunk driving accident. So hopefully you take it seriously to book a car or limo, designate a driver or book a hotel room!
Just read a crazy newspaper articlewhere they actually have banned "pub crawls" in Providence, Rhode Island on Thursday 6/11/09 House lawmakers approved the bill by a razor-thin 35-33 vote.
Five years ago, sadly, Fairfield University's valedictorian Francis Marx was run over by a bus when he was allegedly pushed into the street by three other University of Rhode Island students while they got into an altercation.
Rep. Crowley from Rhode Island has been working with URI and President Robert Carothers to change the school from a "party school" to a respectable educational institution. The pub crawl ban was part of this plan.
The pub crawl ban was added to an existing law banning bars and restaurants with liquor licenses from advertising certain promotions such as happy hour or two-for-one nights, Crowley said. The law entitles each town to deal with establishments that break this rule in their own way.
"Licensees can't participate in pub crawls," Crowley said. "If they do, this law gives each town the authority to call that licensee into a council and possibly revoke their liquor license."
Hmmm. . . sounds very similar to the reputation of ASU - as a "party school". Is some incident going to cause lawmakers here in AZ to outlaw bar hopping or "pub crawls" - especially in the Tempe area area (close to ASU)? As a limo company we certainly hope not! Bar hopping is the crux of our night-on-the-town business!
What do you think? Do you think the lawmakers in Rhode Island had a right to outlaw organized pub crawls? Isn't it about personal responsibility to not get overly intoxicated and get into drunken brawls too?
I couldn't stop laughing! Some of our prospects and clients are exactly like this!!
How about a limo transfers right in the middle of a prime Saturday night - come on - my $100 is good here - I don't care that you should be making $500 for 4 hours of service on this busy night. . . .
Hilarious YouTube video done by Scofield Editorial - check it out! Hopefully people will find this funny . . . .

We just hung out with an un-employed-and-not-seriously-looking-for-a-job friend the other night. For her - it is a job to go out every night. She's 22 - and Mom and Dad help her out with living expenses - so I'll give her a break. She is young and having fun!
But literally - for her it is a job - sleep all day - get up around 6-9pm - eat, work out, and get ready to hit the clubs and after hours parties. Go out from 11pm to maybe 5am - maybe 9am if it is a fun after-hours party. Then back to bed. Then wake up to do it all over again. The only exception is Sunday - when you just don't go to bed at all - you just stay up and party at the pools at hotels like the Mondrian or W Hotel - frozen daiquiris anyone?
So I would call her an expert to what is hot right now in Scottsdale, AZ. She had an agenda of the hot-spots in Scottsdale of all the new clubs:
MONDAY - Zuma, Crown room and Cream Stereo Lounge
TUESDAY - ACME then Dirty Pretty
WEDNESDAY - American Junkie
THURS - Jackrabbit Supper Club and Cream Stereo Lounge
FRIDAY - Anywhere is fun and busy!
SATURDAY - Shade bar at the W Hotel
SUNDAY - Martini Ranch and then Pussycat Lounge

We are in the process of contacting all these new hot spots and getting VIP service for all our clients. Check out our VIP Clubs page to see what we have arranged special for our clients only when you book limo, SUV limo or party bus service with us!
Anybody have any more clubs you want us to get VIP status at? Any suggestions to add to the list or reviews of clubs? I need to know what is hot in Tempe - anyone?

To say that drinking a partying are a favorite past-time in Scottsdale, AZ is an understatement. Any town where you have a store front for a DUI attorney right in the heart of the Old Town Scottsdale area - where all the bars and nightclubs are - gives you a clue that partying is serious business. A couple of upcoming events caught my eye as I skimmed through the latest 944 magazine that I'm sure will be off-the-hook!
944 Poolside Sundays - Mondrian Scottsdale - 6/21 and 6/28/09 - Hot DJs - even hotter women in bikinis. This bash on Sunday will be a blast with some of the best looking people - cool vibe - and best way to recover from Saturday night's festivities.

Eric Clapton and Steve Windwood were always a main staple of music in the background at my house in my childhood. My father - an old hand at the acoustic and electric guitar himself - considers Eric Clapton one of the best all-time players.
Eric Clapton has remained fresh releasing great hits like Tear in Heaven and winning a Grammy in 2008 for The Road to Escondido. Amazingly his recording history dates all the way back to 1965.
The concert - coming to the Jobing.com arena on 6/26/09 - had reviews like "the acoustic portion of the concert is awesome", "Killer concert. It's unbelievable how two extraordinarily accomplished guitar players can each play a Fender Stratocaster and yet sound so different! Winwood gives Clapton a run for his money on guitar."
At an all-out musical extravaganza like this - some cocktails might be called for to celebrate. Take a sedan, SUV, or limo to safely enjoy the concert at the Jobing.com arena!
Mention discount code BLOG_Clapton and you can get the low Sunday-Thursday pricing for this incredible concert!

Consumer Alert -
Some companies don't even own vehicles - they put stock photos of limos and party buses up on their website. They take your calls, give you quotes and book limos. But then they send your reservation to a subcontracted company.
So they are making a percentage of money of your reservation and they don't really own the car, supervise the chauffeur, or have the expensive insurance and licensing required to operate a legitimate limo company.
There is nothing inherently wrong with this. They are merely a booking agent - or like a travel agent for limos. But you - as the consumer - should know - up front if they are just "brokers" or "travel agents" or if they actually own the limos they are selling.
And of course you - as the consumer - could save yourself money by contacting the REAL limo company directly and making the reservation directly. You also have more control over your experience. If something goes wrong, the "broker" or "travel agent" may take longer to get in touch with the chauffeur assigned to your reservation - or worse yet - just not accept any fault at all or help you if the vehicle is late, broken down, dirty, etc.
Know up front if the company you are renting from OWNS the vehicle they are selling/renting you. Ask if you can come down to tour the vehicle - or see if they have video or pictures that look legit (not stock photos that you have seen across multiple websites).
So we all know it - Arizona has some of the toughest DUI laws in the nation. Your going to go to jail - 1 day if your BAC (blood alcohol content) is under 0.15. For 30 days if your BAC is 0.15 to 0.20. And 45 days if your BAC is over 0.20. Fines are heavy, plus paying for ignition interlock, your increased insurance costs, attorney fees, etc. it is not unusual for that one night of drinking to cost you $5,000-$15,000. Or more - especially if your job depends on your clean driving record. . .
There are some surprising facts recently announced by the US Department of Health and Human Services about binge drinking. Binge drinking is defined as consuming 5 or more drinks on one occasion. We all picture college kids at a frat party when we hear the word binge drinking - right?
Not true according to the USDHHS. People making more than $50,000 are more likely to binge drink than people in any other category.
Crazy - so those people that know about health consequences, have the money and presumably the education to know better (or else why would they be making over $50,000 a year right?), are the most likely to binge drink! The stats are:
- 70% of binge drinking episodes involve adults over age 25 years.
- The prevalence of binge drinking among men is 2 times the prevalence among women.
- Binge drinkers are 14 times more likely to report alcohol-impaired driving than non-binge drinkers.
- About 90% of the alcohol consumed by youth under the age of 21 years in the United States is in the form of binge drinks.
- About 75% of the alcohol consumed by adults in the United States is in the form of binge drinks.
Bing drinking can lead to:
- Unintentional injuries (e.g., car crashes, falls, burns, drowning).
- Intentional injuries (e.g., firearm injuries, sexual assault, domestic violence).
- Alcohol poisoning.
- Blackouts.
- Sexually transmitted diseases.
- Unintended pregnancy.
- Children born with Fetal Alcohol Disorders.
- High blood pressure, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases.
- Liver disease.
- Neurological damage.
- Sexual dysfunction.
- Poor control of diabetes.
Of course I'm going to pitch a safe way to avoid a DUI - if your going to drink - at least plan ahead and order car service, a limo or party bus from In The Scene Limousine. Or call a cab, designate a driver, or stay home and drink.
But binge drinking sure sounds like a serious problem for a surprising category of people. Hopefully you and your loved ones aren't often over-indulging in alcohol.

Hope to see you there!!
Mesa, AZ is really coming into it's own as a destination of choice. Currently Mesa is Arizona's 3rd largest city in Arizona with over 440,000 residents. Visitors and residents alike enjoy the warm weather, food, shopping and of course world-class golf.
New mega hotels like the Gaylord Resort and Convention Center with 1,500-room resort, a 225,000-square-foot convention center, and as a 490-room resort adjacent to that project coming soon will put Mesa in the spotlight even more. In March 2009, Mesa voters gave a thumbs up for a $51 million bed tax incentive package to help bring what will be Arizona's largest resort hotel and convention center northeast of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.
Our company is based in Tempe - a neighbor of Mesa - so we can quickly do a last minute airport transfer, a limo or party bus, or a corporate event in a mini or charter bus.
Let In The Scene Limousine be your provider of choice for Mesa limos, party buses, sedans, SUVs, mini or charter buses.
